Rear-View TV – C'mon Man!

The Lilliput RV18Æ’_”50NP 5 inch TFT rear view mirror. Before we get started, I want to repeat what I just said.

This is a REAR VIEW MIRROR with a built-in 5 Inch TFT.

Get it, there is a TV in the rear view mirror!

Now, practical applications – like connecting it to a backup-camera, are valid. But, comin, 5″ – that isn’t meant for backing up! A widescreen TFT mirror that lets you watch Tom Cruise as you cruise. Or rather crash. Your call. $199.95.

Ogilvy to mandate Eyetools eyetracking testing for email clients

AdAge wrote about Ogilvy optimizing emails with heatmaps and eyetracking.
This is an Eyetools ‘heatmap’ of the hottest spots of attention on one email. Click to see larger eyetracking image.

Ogilvy’s director of email campaigns, Jeanniey Mullen (who is *really* smart) sees strategic benefit in adding objective feedback/testing into their design process — they want to always improve the quality delivered to their end-clients.

Ogilvy picked Eyetools as their email testing supplier because of our speed and experience in the space. A lot of work went into getting us to this point! (Ignore me as I pat myself on the back :-)

Top 10 Cell Phone Wish List

What’s wrong with my mobile phone? I can think of ten things that carriers and handset manufacturers need to fix.

Sometimes it’s the little things that matter. When it comes to cell phones, that statement holds very true. Certain aspects of my phone and those I review, along with the services that power them, drive me nuts. So I’ve come up with a wish list of sorts, things that would make handsets work better for all of us. Here are my top ten requests.

MIMO – Already the "unofficial standard"

MIMO (Multiple In Multiple Out) – the war for the 802.11n high-speed wireless LAN standard seemed all but a foregone conclusion for the TGn Sync group since they had achieved a simple majority vote (57%) of attendees at the Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers 802.11n task group. Although TGn Sync failed the 75% super majority vote required for official draft standard status, it was able to eliminate every other standard from consideration including the second place winner WWiSE.

Airgo Networks is a small startup based in Palo Alto California, and is part of the WWiSE alliance pushing for spectrum efficiency. Continue reading

Siemens SL75 is something fancy, now isn't it!

TheSiemens SL55Siemens and the SL55 are great new innovations when it seems that everything is boring in the world of phones, or so says the group over at “Shiny, Shiny.”

Could it be possible that Siemens might have finally come up with a phone that would convince me to throw away my low-tech but lovely SL55? Well, until I get my hands on the new SL75 I couldn’t possibly comment, but the photos are looking pretty promising. It’s certainly got a lot more features than my poor old mobile, including a 1.3-megapixel digital camera with LED flash, MP3 music player and Bluetooth. The last one’s a bit of a minor miracle since Siemens people have always insisted that fashion phone users don’t want Bluetooth. Slightly disappointed that it’s only coming in silver and black (though no doubt there will be an Escada version at some point) and not the dark red colour. It’ll be out in the UK later this year.
