Plug your money leaks.. Wait, are you Kidding?

USSTAMP_penny_black.jpg

Real Simple has 20 money saving tips for 2006. They run the gamut from not paying airlines for extras to paying you’re bills via the Web:

The average household receive about 15 bills a month. With stamps now at 39 cents each, you spend about $70 a year just on postage and don’t forget the late fees if your checks get lost in the mail. Save time and money by signing up with the billers’ customer-service departments to have your bills paid by credit card or automatic debit; payments will be documented on your monthly bank statement. If you want more control, almost all major banks offer free online bill payment, which lets you schedule payments in advance.

These tips can save you up to $3000 a year. That’s pretty good beer and pizza money.

Wait a minute – are they serious? Who, just tell me, who still MAILS in 15 bills a month. It’s 2006 – and the Internet is King (or Queen, depending on your proclivity), however I haven’t written a check in nearly 6 years! C’mon get with the times, we make our beer and pizza money selling our old crap on eBay!

A Marketer's Peek at HTML E-Mail Newsletters

HTML Email

After limping along for a couple of years HTML e-mail is finally taking off. On two lists where I give people a choice, 60% of new subscribers prefer to receive HTML e-mail over plain ASCII text, up from 50% in October 1999.

I was amazed to find on my JesusWalk.com list, that of subscribers outside the US, 76% preferred HTML e-mail, just the opposite of what I would have expected. More and more people are using e-mail programs that support HTML e-mail, and client e-mail programs that don’t support it are under increasing pressure to include it.

W32.Blackmal.E@mm Alert Issued

Download the Fix Now!Symantec Security Response – W32.Blackmal.E@mm

Seems there is always some schmuck distributing a new virus. This weekend is no exception with the Feb. 3 kick off of the W32.Blackmal.E@mm worm running amok. If your systems are off over the weekend, ensure you have software updates in place before ‘turning the pipe back on.’ The influx of new messages laden with the virus may overwhelm your systems otherwise.

Click on the yellow image to be taken to the removal tool from Symantec for this latest virus which is not making a huge impact – but if you find all your Microsoft Office Files gone – You’ll think it’s very serious to you. Get protected today. Continue reading

Adhancer- use junk and spam email to generate revenue

AdhancerEveryone gets annoying emails. Spam, junk mail, advertisements…

Whilst visiting my favorite scripts site, HotScripts, I stumbled across a program I read about some time about in the news. Well, here’s the basic thing – Instead of having your spam only clutter your inbox, it can also serve another purpose – automatic website content generation. Yep, it’s a program to build a website full of spam.

Now, I think that there is a great business spirit here – using something that costs us processing and/or mind share to make money by putting ads on the pages – and making money by the click. Continue reading

10th Planet Identified? Pluto not really a 'planet'…

School textbooks on astronomy may have to be rewritten following official confirmation that a new object discovered at the edge of the solar system is bigger than the ninth planet, Pluto.

The findings could mean that either there will now be 10 planets in the solar system or that the status of Pluto will be downgraded and we will be back to having eight planets.

German astronomers have calculated that the object officially known as 2003 UB313 is substantially bigger than Pluto, which bolsters the case for conferring it with the status of a properly named planet.

The object, given nicknames such as “Xena”, “Santa” and “Rudolph”, will almost certainly be named after a Greco-Roman deity who has so far not been used to describe other planets or asteroids.

A committee of the International Astronomical Union will meet later this year to decide whether UB313 should be considered the 10th planet and, if so, what name it should be given. Continue reading

Glide Effortless makes digital life on the Web a breeze

Glide - Personal Interactivity Online without the drama - Its software for the WebSoftware that runs on the Web — instead of from your computer’s hard disk — is popping up all over the Internet.

Take, for instance, Writely, a word processor that mimics many of the features of Microsoft Word inside a Web browser. There’s also Zimbra, a virtual clone of Microsoft Outlook, which runs comfortably inside an Internet Explorer or Firefox window.

A few years from now, we may ditch buying software on disc all together. Instead, we’ll jack into powerful programs that are delivered over high-speed connections. Some of these tools, such as Writely, will be free. We’ll pay a few bucks a month to use others like Zimbra.

Glide Effortless is the newest Web app to hit the Net — and the slickest, most innovative we’ve seen. It packages powerful, but easy-to-use tools, for saving and sharing all kinds of digital files, including music, videos, photos, word processing documents and PowerPoint presentations. Microsoft's Internet Explorer 7 Beta

IE 7 beta - the Preview (more pictures inside)

IE7 beta – Released and Reviewed

Hands On With Microsoft’s Internet Explorer 7 Beta

At first, Microsoft seemed to think that Windows XP users didn’t need a better Internet Explorer, despite IE 6′s security holes and lack of browsing ameneties–and despite the growing popularity of Firefox. Then, almost a year ago, the behemoth of Redmond declared that there would be an Internet Explorer 7 for XP and Win 2K.

IE 7 in its final form is still not here–Microsoft says it’s now shooting for it to arrive at roughly the same time that Windows Vista does. (Which will be, in theory. late this year.) But I’ve been playing with a prerelease version for a few days (as has my colleague Erik Larkin–here’s his take). And today, Microsoft has made a beta version of the browser available at its IE site–the first time one’s been available to anyone who wanted to take it for a spin. Continue reading
