If it looks like a turkey….

Yes, the Tofurky holiday roast. Now admittedly, this item may not look too good, but once the fixins’ are added to the plate, it looks a lot more tasty.

People are buying the Tofurkey, too. The company that makes it California’s Turtle Island Foods is holding a contest this year where people are invited to guess how many tofurkeys are sold by the end of this year. The Web site says they have sold over 882,000 as of the beginning of this year and have been selling them since 1995.

What do you win if you guess right? An electric scooter.

By the way, the Web site for the Tofurkey also includes a recipe for giblet gravy. Considering how gross that bag of guts stuffed inside real turkeys usually looks, we think the Tofurkey substitute version can only be an improvement. Continue reading

Contrails: Global Warming Caused by Increased Flights?

o we have too many aircraft flying? The potential of increased air flight is causing global warming. Yes, airplanes. Others say that the widespread contrails, in the non-overlapping patterns are not contrails at all, but chemtrails – chemically laden materials distributed in the sky.

NASA scientists have found that cirrus clouds, formed by contrails from aircraft engine exhaust, are capable of increasing average surface temperatures enough to account for a warming trend in the United States that occurred between 1975 and 1994.

According to Patrick Minnis, a senior research scientist at NASA’s Langley Research Center in Hampton, Va., there has been a one percent per decade increase in cirrus cloud cover over the United States, likely due to air traffic. Cirrus clouds exert a warming influence on the surface by allowing most of the Sun’s rays to pass through but then trapping some of the resulting heat emitted by the surface and lower atmosphere.

Using a general circulation model, Minnis estimates that cirrus clouds from contrails increased the temperatures of the lower atmosphere by anywhere from 0.36 to 0.54°F per decade. Minnis’s results show good agreement with weather service data, which reveal that the temperature of the surface and lower atmosphere rose by almost 0.5°F per decade between 1975 and 1994.

Mid-Terms Over – Let the Impeachment Begin!

With the election over and all but finalized, the House is now in Democratic control! Will the Impeachment proceedings start soon?

Key quotes on the results of Tuesdays US mid-term elections which saw the Democrats win control of the House of Representatives but an uncertain outcome in the Senate:

NANCY PELOSI, DEMOCRATIC LEADER IN THE HOUSE

“Nowhere did the American people make it more clear that we need a new direction than in the war in Iraq… We cannot continue down this catastrophic path.

“Today the American people voted for change and they voted for Democrats to take our country in a new direction and that is exactly what we intend to do…

“The Democrats intend to lead the most honest and ethical Congress in history.”
