Mass Hysteria Cause for Illnesses in Peru Meteor Crash
Mass hysteria was the reason people were sick after the meteor crash in Peru. Yep, hysteria. The nausea, headaches and sore throats.. it was hysteria. They were scared. According to the report on AOL News, “Those who say they are … Continue reading

Google, oh Google – do you know too much?
Okay, I admit Google is my preference for, well, pretty much everything I want to find. Haven’t used a different search engine in months, perhaps longer. But tonight, for some reason, I realized how much Google really does know about … Continue reading

The Police work for the People – Tasers on the Loose
Tasers are getting more and more coverage in the news with what seem to be innocent college students, and others, who are caught in their spark. Today, while asking John Kerry a question, a student was forcibly removed from the microphone and when he couldn’t quite understand why he was being led away forcibly, he was further detained, slammed to the ground, then with seven officers holding him down, he was taser-ed.
People – it’s time to let everyone know – this is OUR government and the police work for us. Although the incident is now under Police review – the community standard applies – and that would be you, me and the community. This was a horrible act on an innocent student. How much longer can we let these things happen? Continue reading

Search for 15 minutes or have some Patience
Patience – something we believe we all possess to some level, and as I have gotten older, I believe I am very patient in comfortable situations and extremely impatient in not-so-comfortable ones. Guess that pretty much goes for everyone as well, but sometimes you realize that you need to be just a little bit more patient – and tonight, I learned it from the Internet.
Yep, the Internet – that treasure trove of content and information, gossip and news – the things life is made of. I turn to the net for most everything – and sometimes it astonishes me how sometimes it takes the web for you to see what is right under your eyes. Continue reading

Sushi – Nude Models Draw Women – or Men?
Nude models always create a draw when on public display or in tandem with some meaningful marketing event held at a major retailer or on the behalf of a brand like Victoria’s Secret. Sushi Das, writer for The Age, declared that the entire event was pretty much male dominated and was a great example of the male ‘ape-like’ behavior still present in today’s society deeply rooted in our DNA.
While the article even lures this ‘Ape like’ mentality in it’s headline declaring “Male monkey business as models turn other cheek” and going on to say “HAD there been tall trees nearby, they probably would have climbed them.” (emphasis added)
Okay, so upon closer inspection of the photograph provided in the article, I was astounded to see six visible people in the photograph from the event – four of which are women! Yes, women! (Source: The Age) Continue reading

Popcorn with Artificial Butter May be Hazardous To Your Health
Love popcorn? Who doesn’t – and generally the more butter the better. According to a New York Times report, this butter isn’t butter at all – it’s most commonly Diacetyl (Couldn’t they have come up with a more appealing name for fake butter?). This substance, when researched at the OSHA (Occupational Safety & Health Administration) website, makes it clear that various studies have linked this chemical agent to a number of just plain bad results.
A disease referred to as “Popcorn Worker Lung,” or officially ‘bronchiolitis obliterans,’ has had no regulatory action taken even after years of studies. According to OSHA, there are studies which have resulted in the death of 1 out of 4 rats after six hours of exposure to the artificial tasty stuff.
More importantly, it’s not just on the popcorn. It’s actually only created from the heating process involved and is carried in the steam that many of us look forward to smelling when opening the bag after taking it out of the microwave. The man in the New York Times article referred to himself as ‘Mr. Popcorn,’ often consuming two bags of microwave popcorn daily. Continue reading

ACLU Wins Battle against Patriot Act
Finally the wheels of Justice are moving forward. Today the Court found that the Patriot Act violated the Constitution and thereby changes are necessary in the processes necessary for corporate monitoring, the use of confidential letters demanding information, and the monitoring of electronic communications. The case was brought by the ACLU.
“Courts have a constitutionally mandated role to play when national security policies infringe on First Amendment rights,” said Jameel Jaffer, director of the ACLU’s National Security Project. “A statute that allows the FBI to silence people without meaningful judicial oversight is unconstitutional.”

Nepal’s Sacrificial Offerings Get Plane Off the Ground
Most people have at least heard the name “Kathmandu” at some point in their life, however most people don’t even know where it is. Even fewer may be aware that animal sacrifices are still a part of their culture. This may only be coming clear with the advent of the internet. Today’s blogosphere is alive with the story of two goats being sacrificed by the state-run airline of Nepal to appease the Hindu sky god, Akash Bhairab.
Now that the Boeing 757 (1 of 2 the country operates) is back-in-the-air, it makes things a little different. We are all comfortable and content in our world – our world currently ripped apart by war, in-fighting and hate. Our country, the one we love and believe in the words our founding fathers wrote – is slowly being drained of all it’s assets by the current Administration for now and long into the future. We have military installations across the world – and we aren’t under threat, we think we are in charge! Continue reading

Count your 1st Amendment blessings…
While Mr. Know-It-All (or mild mannered Brendan I. Koerner) would already be in shackles in a Chinese prison by describing the methods of circumventing the Chinese authorities who watch all Internet traffic in China, those in ‘free’ countries should take note of the freedom that being able to say, listen to, download, post online as we wish – talking about anything – is a blessing.
