24 Season Finale – Yes, I was hooked

Fox’s “24″ final episode was incredible – kept you sitting on the edge of your seat. Just trying to fathom how Jack Bauer could unleash the powers of CTU and the Whitehouse on getting into that chopper was pretty amazing. Season finales are usually a bit more “hanging” that this episode, but it’s been VERY long day.

David Palmer’s death being shattered by the President’s Wife during the carrying of the casket was great – and the way that she was able to enable to President to confess to everything was pretty slick- and oh, thank you Jack Bauer for having Chloe’s ex build that special communication device. It was able to stay on the president.

Hats off to a great season of television entertainment. In the last few episodes there was definitely a lot of keep your heart racing. I found that myself – well, I had to record it on the DVR so I could fast forward through the commericals. I can’t take the waiting part, DINK dink DINK. That sound!

So, what inspired me to make this a technology related article aside from the fact that CTU exists on the cutting edge of communication ability -including that special phone Jack has that somehow, well, works just EVERYWHERE – including onboard planes. Don’t know how that works, but I do know how my DVR works. I freaked out when I realized that the episode started at 8 instead of nine, I didn’t know until about 20 after. Checked it, good thing that the DVR is smart enough to only say “do you want all the episodes?” and I say sure. Only problem is, the cable guide shows that 24 was on for 90 minutes. Yep, 90. So guess what, exactly 1:32 into my show, it goes off. hmmmm Well, they must have had it marked as 24 for the last half hour too, so it should have recorded. Nope, guide said something else.

You heard it right here folks, I didn’t get the last half hour of the show. Oh sure, I already got the skinny from a friend of mine who had to answer to all the tiny little details regarding the scenes immediately after the President has his little “chat” with the First Lady after her outburst. If only I could have see the gin on Chloe’s face when she went to say she had a recording. This is pretty incredible. I mean, first of all, Jack Bauer is an insane man – but he thinks of freaking EVERYTHING.

Hats off to Fox for this great production – it can be seen as a leader to many things in other ways. It’s sad that the next season isn’t until January 2007 – I mean, HBO has learned you can’t keep these long season breaks up – people lose interest. Sure, we know that Fox will play the seasons one after another just like HBO, but it’s the latest trend.

After reading the season review at Screen Rants, I was able to determine that people may not be so different than me. It’s fast paced show and you HAVE to be able to keep up – there’s so much going on. Plus, I don’t think the President ever slept.

Well that was a heck of a season of Fox’s 24, wasn’t it? I think that had the highest ongoing character body count yet. I don’t know how anybody who doesn’t have a DVR watches this show… I stack ‘em up on the hard drive for weeks (delaying my gratification) and then I watch them 2-3 in a row without commercials.

I have to say that after the excitement the show delivers week to week, the ending left me a little disappointed. There was tension in the first half, but the decompression at the end left me feeling somewhat empty. It was nice to see Jack break down after such a harrowing year/day. He would not have been human if all he’s been through didn’t have an effect on him.

Looks like a lot of folks won’t be back next year… maybe the writers are looking to break the mold a bit, which can be a good thing.

But, the glory shots of the Sprint powered Motorola Razr showing live video feed from Fox News (of course) is a bit much. I’ve seen that damn logo a few too many times, and it’s such an obvious placement. The logo is HUGE on those phones. Isn’t it all just TOO much, or just because everyone realizes it now. There’s so little to hide – anywhere.
