Overview: Motorola MPX-300

This is not going to be a technical overview by any means. Don’t be expecting processor speeds and all that other smack, because you proabably have more of that information than anything else already smattered into your brain about this product.

Well, it’s not really that tough. It just rocks. The MPX is a rare machine to behold and enjoy. If you every wanted to have something that just LOOKS futuristic, when you open the keys and they all light up blue and you see it in a dimly lit room, it’s the most futuristic thing you’ve ever seen. Very cool, keyboard just isn’t big enough for me. Yeah, it’s a full, very strange, keys-that-are-too-small, keyboard. But it is hot, the way it lights up and all.

As to the multi-opening methods. It’s not really that hard, you push the button on the right of the upper hinge and push up, there you have it, the phone that goes both ways folks, for a limited time only – and at a price not all can afford.

It’s priced at $1299.99 by the retailer, however I have seen it up for sale for as little as $949.99 (a TigerDirect.com would be a place). They are currently on an extended order cycle to due some supply issues, however they are definitely something to look at use and enjoy.

Having built-in Wi-Fi was a cool feature for sitting where there is connectivity and surfing the web. I just don’t understand why you have to disconnect from the GSM network when you do so. Why can’t I have both signals? I mean, Wi-Fi does co-exist with Cellular technogy, inches away from each other. Why not right next to each other?

Do I need to go into all the reasons that this Windows Mobile Operating system is the most wonderful thing since sliced bread? It’s just cool, geek man gadget cool.

So yeah, it gets my new Geek award. Love it.

UPDATE: 4/17/05 – The MPX-300 was pulled within days after it’s first shipment due to a firmware issue. Month and a half later – no update has been provided by Motorola. Have they scrapped the product? Have the said a word? No. Just keep listening to find out!
