YouTubers Trip on RoboTussin – Cause Uproar

DXM - Abuse by kidsDXM – many may have never heard that term before, but it’s legal, it’s in your cough syrup – and kids have been getting high off of it for years. Only problem is, now they are putting their trippy experience popularized by Robotussin and thereby it’s nickname of “Robo”, on YouTube.

Hundreds of videos can be found which capture the experience of taking the cough syrup and other cold remedies then enjoying the ‘tripping’ experience it brings when overused. Before kids only told each other stories – if they told anyone. These days, the Internet makes things more enjoyable when you know you can share them with someone else – and you can share pretty much everything these days. Similar videos on YouTube of people using Salvia have sparked the issue nationwide and is now under consideration to be added to the list of scheduled drugs alongside cocaine and marijuana.

CBS News Report: Robo-Tripping

One such story said that Salvia must be outlawed because it impairs the ability to drive. Well, if that’s true – then we should also criminalize alcohol, shouldn’t we? Not sure what people want to do in this world – we are all responsible for ourselves and must suffer the consequences of our actions. When we ask the government to control our access and permissions, we are only giving up our freedoms. Which one are you willing to give up next? Caffeine? Nicotine? Sugar? These are all things that do, can or may have terrible side effects – which can harm you – perhaps they truly should be regulated more heavily.

I mean, the tobacco industry – still in business in 2007 – is legally allowing people to kill themselves. While euthanasia is illegal, using cigarettes and alcohol to kill yourself is 100% legal and a leading cause of death in this country – but they are legal my friends due to their high amount of revenue and taxation. Marijuana could be legalized and taxed as could other controlled substances like Salvia, which is a mint, by the way.

But for kids tripping on Robo, I don’t think it’s wise. I never did it and always had lots of cough medicine due to childhood illnesses. I think people used to say it caused brain damage or something if you did it – perhaps only to scare us – but I believed it anyway. lol

According to the 1Urban Dictionary, these kids actually seem to have a plan to maximize their experience.

High doses have been compared to ketamine and can include significant depersonalization and dissociation, bizarre thought patterns, and the user often feeling completely disconnected from external reality. Marked changes in visual perception are increasingly noticeable and can include lilliputian hallucinations. Coordination is significantly impaired, and many users are unable to move comfortably.

Out of body experiences and religious experiences are common. Extending the duration of the DXM trip through pre-dosing (taking multiple “booster” doses throughout the day before the main dose) may bring about a separation from reality which has much in common with forms of psychosis: extreme schizophrenic hallucinations, such as hearing voices, seeing entities with eyes open, and experiencing a total breakdown of reality.1

Kids, it’s not the smart thing to do. Really, it’s not. And this is from a man who believes people should be allowed to do as they choose. Watch the video. The video wall of kids all doing the drug while on YouTube is pretty cool. The more people can see ‘dirty laundry’ the no longer they can deny it’s existence.
