Gateway can’t seem to make up it’s mind. First of all, who bought who? Who’s turning who around? eMachines with their long business-life of low priced PCs has been flexible and nimble enough to survive all these years and now Gateway isn’t hemmoraging anymore, so….
Is Gateway in or out of the electronics business?
As per eWeek, “Gateway has turned off it’s televisions.” Quietly, the Irvine, California computer maker has phased out their plasma and LCD-TV televisions and seems to be focusing on – yep, PCs! Imagine that! The article says “..after failing in a bid to become a brand-name consumer electronics supplier, it inked the eMachines deal and refocused it’s efforts on selling PCs to consumers and businesses.”
Well, it moved up to #3 PC shipments in the second quarter of this year, only to be bumped out of place by Apple in the last few weeks according to a recent report by IDC. Dell, king of the kill, has 19.3%, down from 23.7%; HP at 15.6% up from 14.6% and finally our little fruit, I mean, little computer company that could, Apple at 4.5% up from 3.7% from last year.
