Thankfully, it isn’t often in life we have to deal with death head on. Once we do, it stirs up so many emotions, old memories seem to find a way of coming back clearer than ever. More interestingly, is how the memories are suddenly clear, fresh and anew with life. It doesn’t seem as if it has been 30 years, 50 years, or more.

Head case lonny.paul The human mind, for all it does, is an unbelievable piece of engineering. This single device, the size of a large cantelope, allows for storage of everything you have seen, smelled, touched, experienced, heard and read for your entire life.

How can all this data be stored in a small form factor? I don’t know, but it must be an amazing structure. As things become ‘long-term memory,’ does the human mind compress them away in a much smaller package than recent memory? According to one website, there may be three various data ’stores’ within the human brain.

Dianetics, however, has another theory:

The awesome power of human memory

Ron also discovered that the data in memory is cross-referenced. A woman sees a car, that picture is cross-referenced to other pictures of cars she has in her memory as well as all of the other information that she has about cars; models, colors, how to drive them, and so on.

Each mental image picture is made up of millions of bits of information. So, the mind is taking in trillions of bits of information every hour.

Just within the last half hour or so, your memory has grown by nearly 18,000 mental image pictures, or something on the order of 7 trillion bits of information.

Given that, is it possible that all memory resides somewhere in a few pounds of gray matter?

But, to find out the real story - you have to read the book.

I don’t know how it’s done.
I don’t know how it’s even possible.

All I know, is that - it’s amazing.
