Well, in the past several days, I have successfully shut down two (2) websites - without an attorney! Only using the power of the law. It’s in our hands - the DMCA provides very specific policies for the “take-down” procedures to stop a copyright infringer in their tracks - and fast. By law, the hosting company has to respond expeditiously to any such demand, and must do so prior to the filing of a response, which can request hearing in the Federal Court, otherwise the lift is removed after 14 days.

So, let’s say your prize photograph is on someone’s homepage. Email them, tell them what they’ve done, generally a simply “sorry I’m changing now” is the response. Then, if they don’t answer, email them again. Then, let the clock count for 24 hours and breathe deeply.

After the 24 hours expires, and no response has been received from the violator, and it’s still on their site, send the hosting company a demand for take down and it will happen! Funny how fast people respond to emails when they get one saying their website is being taken offline!
