While the City seems to believe more well-spoken individuals are thrilled with the Biscayne Omni area when ready for a night out on the town, think again - the issue of prostitution, vagrancy, panhandling in the streets to and from the highway on-ramps - and yet near the Knight Center several downtown agents in brand-new shirts sporting the DWTN logo stand about talking to each other.
A Miami-based blog called ‘DailyCocaine,’ (and food is the new cocaine - and the focus of the blog itself) decided to provide a review of some of the better locations (mockingly) for the ingestion of cocaine… included, by no surprise, is the Burger King on Biscayne and NE 16th Street. While I have detailed the issues of this area in past blog entries, his really takes the cake…
The Burger King at Biscayne Blvd. and 17th St. has a lovely tiled bathroom with a lock and key, a couple of handicap rails to keep you steady, and a charming group of $10 hookers hanging out in the parking lot. Probably better for rock-heads, but will do in a pinch when you realize your buzz won’t take you all the way to your destination. Or that, sadly, this IS your destination.
Try the Hershey’s Sundae Pie. No, that’s not the name of one of the working gals, it’s ice cream, freak. Or maybe both. But at least it will keep your twitching lips busy. The ice cream, I mean.
The fact he recommended an item off the Burger King menu just cracks me up. Oh, and his picture from the actual bathroom.
He is far more adventuresome than I, and I live a few blocks away and have been in that place. But not the bathroom.
The Omni area of Biscayne needs a good cleaning - the current remodeling project at the Omni continues to progress; the new roof on the Miami Herald - covering the previous helipad with a clean, fresh consistent roof, the installation of the fancy sidewalks near the overpass where the two buildings were demolished several months ago.
While the Biscayne Wall forges ahead, the City needs to get the new ‘Theater District’ in order. The empty buildings, the lack of any forward motion to get tenants in the historic tower showcased in the center of the area - and removal of all possible distraction from the greatness that is already here - and forthcoming. Much more lighting is needed in the area - and people who live in the new towers going up who may consider walking over to the ballet will have to go through an unlit overpass generally populated by less than savory folk or construction workers going to-and-fro. At night, the construction workers have already gone home. And it’s dark.
Miami needs to get it together to help the lagging economy, the horrors of the real-estate market - just as thousands of units are nearing completion.
