While most college freshmen will do strange jobs for cash to survive at college, Alex Tew had another idea – why sell off a million pixels at $1 each – netting $1 Million dollars. He never expected to make his goal, but was suddenly thrown into the media spotlight and talked about worldwide.
Working on new ventures, Alex Tew recently spoke regarding his venture and his choice to drop out of college alltogether.
“It’s just changed what’s possible for me but I’m still the youngest in the family so I still get all the c**p.
“Apparently younger siblings are much more likely to be entrepreneurs because it’s about wanting to prove yourselves and maybe its an attention thing.”
Alex is stung by the accusation his website was only a success because it was a “novelty and a fluke”, and argues: “I worked my a** off for those 4 and a half months – it wasn’t like free cash”.
He hopes his career can help other young people realise a degree is not always necessary.
“I can’t say I know everything but I can say there is an alternative to university. It’s not easy but I learn stuff everytime something fails.
“You need good ideas but it also requires creativity, hard work and persistence. There are no short-cuts but creativity can be rewarded.”
