Nude models always create a draw when on public display or in tandem with some meaningful marketing event held at a major retailer or on the behalf of a brand like Victoria’s Secret. Sushi Das, writer for The Age, declared that the entire event was pretty much male dominated and was a great example of the male ‘ape-like’ behavior still present in today’s society deeply rooted in our DNA.
While the article even lures this ‘Ape like’ mentality in it’s headline declaring “Male monkey business as models turn other cheek” and going on to say “HAD there been tall trees nearby, they probably would have climbed them.” (emphasis added)
Okay, so upon closer inspection of the photograph provided in the article, I was astounded to see six visible people in the photograph from the event – five of which are women! Yes, women!

When the writer said, “Instead, the men who came to see the lingerie show in Bourke Street Mall yesterday, stood on benches, steps, tiptoes â€â€? anything that gave them a couple of extra centimetres (sic).” She stopped short without saying, “So they could see over all the women blocking their view.”

The evidence speaks for itself. Miss Das seems to be one with a feminist point of view, and pushes it forward when possible. Her article includes an interview with a female design student as well, further showing the female attendance as well as the student’s view that her father would not be interested in such an event. She said her father (a man) wouldn’t be intersted.
Sushi, did you just end a bad relationship? Get dumped by another man you shared intimate moments with? There’s no need to vent in your reporting of fairly mundane fashion shows on public display – you may just be distorting the facts.
Within a few minutes, the crowd had dispersed. The men had not had to climb down from the trees, but nonetheless, there was something ape-like in their manner as they shuffled off.
